Though I saved for two years while I was in graduate school to realize my dream of studying dance in New York City, at the end of that summer I chose the safe route and returned to school. Perhaps the safe route has not brought you the satisfaction you thought it would either. I'm here to help you define a personal vision of success as an artist, design a curriculum, and establish action steps for developing a portfolio and building an audience.

While I completed my Ph.D. in French and earned tenure on a university faculty, my need for creative self-expression remained strong. Sometime during my service as a 2013/ 2014 Fulbright Scholar in Senegal, the puppet bug bit me hard. After a year of intensive, self-directed study, I was accepted into the O’Neill Theater Center’s National Puppetry Conference. Since then, I have directed a puppet film for the Center for Puppetry Arts’ XPT Show, co-curated the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry’s Living Objects: African American Puppetry exhibit with Dr. John Bell and published an award-winning book --Object Performance in the Black Atlantic: The United States. A Homegrown MFA can unlock the gateway to your dreams!
